| A documentary film on the re-localization movement in the United States: alternative ways of living centered around food and community. |

 |
| We are two students dedicated to revealing change on the margins of American society: small-scale movements of unmanaged dissent and alternative ways of living.
Our project aims to shed light on a movement we are calling re-localization: alternative ways of living in the United States centered around food and community. In order to do so, we will connect with people and organizations who are creating and living alternative lifestyles, seek out traditional and experimental forms of resistance and resilience, and share these stories with a wider audience. Locations include intentional communities in Tennessee, urban farms in Detroit and housing collectives in Massachusetts.
We will be spending two weeks each at the Earthaven Ecovillage in North Carolina and The Farm in Tennessee. We will be embedding ourselves in these communities in order truly share their vision.
We will also be meeting with leaders of urban farming and gardening in the cities of Boston (Revision Farm and The Food Project), New York (Rincon Criollo and other NYC Garden Coalition spots). In New York, we will meet with Karen Washington, a dynamic leader for the gardens of New York City.

| As a team we are qualified to produce an
interesting and high-quality documentary film that will succeed in conveying
the ideas that we are passionate about. Tamer Hassan is a rising senior at Colby
College in Maine. He has been working with the communications office since his
freshman year, writing, filming and editing videos about his school. Armand
Tufenkian will be graduating from Colby in May. He has worked in collaboration
with Tamer on several projects including two short films and a documentary film
on the pharmaceutical industry and legislation. We believe that independent
media and art have a great capacity to instigate people to re-evaluate their
perceptions and inspire people to enact solutions in creative ways. |

 |
| Mainstream media around the world keeps us distracted and unaware of small-
scale movements of dissent against dominant economic and political systems.
As a result, the general public remains ignorant of the lifestyles of people on
the margins and ideas for alternatives and solutions. In the face of severe
economic stability, peak oil and environmental destruction, this ignorance, more
than ever, cries for independent media to reveal those stories on the margins. |
